The Context of the Conflict

The story of Blastborn unfolds in a world devastated by a chain of catastrophes that began with the outbreak of the NT Virus, a lethal and highly contagious infection that transformed much of humanity into uncontrollable creatures known as the Infected. The chaos unleashed by the virus led to the collapse of the most powerful nations of the old world, plunging civilization into disorder. What started as a desperate attempt to contain the infection quickly escalated into a catastrophic global war.

The struggle to halt the virus's spread devolved into total nuclear war, as governments, overwhelmed by the infection's rapid propagation and entangled in political tensions, chose to unleash their nuclear arsenals in a desperate attempt to obliterate the most affected areas. However, this measure only hastened humanity's downfall. The bombs not only obliterated cities and remaining shelters but also caused mass death among innocents and mutations in those who managed to survive the radiation.

The world, now a radioactive wasteland, lies in ruins. Civilization as we knew it ceased to exist, giving rise to new factions, each vying for control over what remains. Humans, Mutants, and Infected compete for the few resources left in this devastated post-apocalyptic landscape. Each faction envisions a different future for rebuilding the world... or dominating it.

Humans

Survivors of the old world who managed to avoid the virus and direct radiation now gather in organised communities. However, after the war, they have been divided into factions competing for leadership and resources. Their strategic approach relies on salvaged technology and the creation of militarised societies striving to bring order back to chaos.

Mutants

Born from exposure to nuclear radiation, mutants are not mere victims of the apocalypse but transformed beings who have embraced their new nature. Rather than lamenting their fate, they have forged a mystical connection with the toxic environment surrounding them, evolving to thrive under the harshest radioactive conditions. Their bodies have developed superior physical abilities at a high cost: their humanity. These beings revere radiation as a spiritual and ancestral force, believing it has unlocked their true potential. They lead nomadic tribes roaming the ruins of civilisation, guided by shamans who interpret the signs of the devastated landscape. They sustain themselves on toxic waste and employ savage and adaptive tactics, hunting their enemies and scavenging what remains of the world.

Infected

The most feared faction, the Infected, are the result of the NT Virus, a plague that has mutated into various strains, some capable of infecting not only humans but also mutants and other species. This adaptability has made the virus an even deadlier threat.

Over time, the Infected have developed multiple hive minds that coordinate their actions. However, these hive minds not only aim to spread the plague but also fight among themselves for control of the Infected and contaminated territories. This internal struggle has added an unpredictable level of chaos to the faction, making it even more brutal and dangerous. With growing numbers and an ability to regenerate under extreme conditions, the Infected are an unstoppable force whose sole purpose is to consume what remains of the world.
